Compulsion Tour and GIVEAWAY

Sunday, June 1, 2014

Summary:
All her life, Barrie Watson has been a virtual prisoner in the house where she lived with her shut-in mother. When her mother dies, Barrie promises to put some mileage on her stiletto heels. But she finds a new kind of prison at her aunt’s South Carolina plantation instead--a prison guarded by an ancient spirit who long ago cursed one of the three founding families of Watson Island and gave the others magical gifts that became compulsions.Stuck with the ghosts of a generations-old feud and hunted by forces she cannot see, Barrie must find a way to break free of the family legacy. With the help of sun-kissed Eight Beaufort, who knows what Barrie wants before she knows herself, the last Watson heir starts to unravel her family's twisted secrets. What she finds is dangerous: a love she never expected, a river that turns to fire at midnight, a gorgeous cousin who isn’t what she seems, and very real enemies who want both Eight and Barrie dead. Martina Boone was born in Prague and spoke several languages before learning English. Her first teacher in the U.S. made fun of her for not pronouncing the "wh" sound right, so she set out to master "all the words”—she's still working on that! In the meantime she’s writing contemporary fantasy set in the kinds of magical places she'd love to visit. She is the author of Compulsion, book one of the Heirs of Watson Island trilogy, which will be out from Simon & Schuster/Simon Pulse October 28, 2014. She is also the founder of of AdventuresInYAPublishing.comYASeriesInsiders.com, and the First Five Pages Workshop.

  11. I'd like to win a book that you've read that you considered a 5-Star read. Sometimes I get into a rut reading the same authors all of the time and miss out on some amazing books. A friend recently recommended that I read Susan Beth Pfeffer's LAST SURVIVORS series. I'd have missed out on this great series if she hadn't told me about it.

    1. Well, I will give you a few recommendations in various genres just so I give you enough to choose.
      1. In fantasy, you NEED to read Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. Fantastic series! I have given all three books 5 stars and the fourth one is set to come out in September. Graceling and Fire by Kristin Cashore, Defy by Sara B. Larson, and the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. In adult fantasy, I would also recommend Lord of the Rings, Song of Ice and Fire series by Martin, and The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.

      2. In paranormal, go with The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. They are a little trippy, but extremely good!

      3. In contemporary, I would read anything by John Green. The Fault in Our Stars, Looking for Alaska, and Paper Towns are my favorite. Also if you're looking for an extremely short read, The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan is great!

      4. In dystopia, I would go with The Hunger Games, Divergent, 1984 by Orwell, and Brave New World by Huxley.

      5. In historical fiction, I would recommend A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller, Redeeming Love and Mark of the Lion Trilogy by Francine Rivers (*highly recommend anything by Rivers), These Highland Hills series by Kathleen Morgan (I gave these 4 stars, but loved them all the same), and the Grave Mercy series by Robin LaFevers isn't bad (but I didn't give them 5 stars).

Does that help you? I can give you more rec's in a certain genre if you would prefer. :)

    2. What a great list this should keep me busy for a long, long time. My daughter is big Terry Goodkind fan and has been trying to get me to read his books for years but I've just never gotten around to them.
