My Unbookish Hobbies

Friday, June 20, 2014

So obviously, as a book blogger, my foremost love is books, but I do have other not so bookish hobbies. If we are being honest here, I will actually tell you that I wasn't always a reader who loved books, so I had to find other things to take up my time.

Unbookish Hobby #1: Art
Ever since I was little, I loved drawing, and as I grew up I began painting a little too along with pastels and ceramics. Before I decided to get my BA in English, I had every intention of getting a degree in art. Part of me wonders what would have happened if I had continued in that vocation, but I love English to question it too much.

Unbookish Hobby #2: Taking long drives on back roads.
That may sound totally lame, but it's one of my favorite things. I love going out in my car, windows and sun roof down while blaring some good ole Texas country music. I live in the middle of nowhere, so I'm surrounded by dirt roads and country farms and homesteads. There's just something about the fresh air and wind whipping through your hair. Though I was born in California, I was raised in Texas country, and I will forever love that.

Unbookish Hobby #3: Photography
I used to take pictures all the time. Throughout my undergrad career, that was my big hobby instead of reading. I do take pictures now if friends ask me, but I don't shoot much. Even though it's been a couple months since I've gotten my camera out of my bag, I still consider it a hobby.

Unbookish Hobby #4: Video games
I love video games. I grew up on a healthy dose of Nintendo when I was little. Being one of three girls, my dad had to have some kind of outlet, so we were raised with Nintendo controllers as teethers -you only think I'm joking; we actually have a picture of this. I grew up loving and spending way too many hours on NES, SNES, PS2, Wii, and now PS3. My love for console video games will always be around.

What are your unbookish hobbies?

  1. Right now, my main non-bookish hobbies are genealogy and making custom clothes for The Sims 2 (which is my favourite video game).

    1. Genealogy is interesting! You don't hear about many people who stick with genealogy anymore! :)

  2. Art is awesome! I like the watercolor. I would so love to take long drives in the country. I live in Texas, in the country, and there are plenty of old back roads, but I lack the vehicle, time, and I would probably get lost, heh, if I didn't have a sensible person willing to tag along. :P
My non-bookish hobbies consist of writing (though is rather bookish), clogging, and playing guitar. I also love to take walks in the woods. The trees are lovely every time of year.

    1. I'm a writer too! I didn't put that in my list because it is kinda bookish lol. But that's awesome! I wish I could play the guitar. I can play other instruments though!
