As always, Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely ladies at The Broke and the Bookish.Today we are talking about TV shows! This summer I have been in a bit of a Netflix hole (ugh can't stop, won't stop). Needless to say, this was an easy list to compile. The one thing I love about my friendship with Amanda is that we have almost identical tastes in television shows. While writing this post I rang her up and asked, "what shows do I like?" She was more than happy to remind me.
I normally don't have time to watch TV in the school year, so I am one that marathons shows in the summer. I hole up in my room with my pup Gatsby and spend hours with my favorite television characters.
1. Doctor Who
I started this show back in college after the recommendation of a friend. Initially I was like "what is this weird time traveling alien show?" Several episodes later I was hooked. Doctor Who has been with me through some ups and downs, and is my go to show when I need cheering up.
2. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Amanda was on my butt for MONTHS about watching this show. I put her off claiming that I wouldn't be into it. Then over spring break I decided to give it a chance and OH MY HEARTTTT. If you enjoy the Marvel movies then you will love this show. It still has the same quirky charm while still providing great plot development.
3. The Mindy Project
This show speaks to my hot mess of a twentysomething heart. Mindy's character is lovable and quirky, as she manages single life in New York City.
4. House of Cards
My boyfriend recommended this to me in passing and I didn't pay much attention because I "don't do political shows". The other week I started it on a whim and was sucked in to all things dark and seedy. This show totally makes me question myself as a person because I love Francis Underwood so much. Just watch it and you'll know what I mean.
5. da Vinci's Demons
THIS SHOW. THIS DAMN SHOW. THIS SHOW RIGHT HERE.
No really. I can't express how good this show is. This is probably one of the best shows I've seen in years. Not only is the storytelling amazing, but the design and costuming are gorgeous. I am head over heels in love with this show. If it was in human form I would take it to Vegas and marry it. Do yourself a favor and watch this show.
Community has had a rough go of it lately, but its fan base is rock solid. The pop culture humor that this show has is none other.
Sherlock. Need I say more? This show is smart and sexy in all the right ways. Plus, Benedict Cumberbatch. Unf.
8. Game of Thrones
I know everyone who is anyone watches this show, and for good reason! I like to stay a book ahead of the TV series, so I know what is coming up. It works out well, allowing me to read a book a year. These books are hefty ones, so I'm not complaining.
This is another show that came per the recommendation of Amanda. I initially didn't like it but after several episodes I fell in love. The cultural attention to detail is exquisite and addicting. I loved learning about Norse mythology through this show, as well as Viking culture in general.
10. Pretty Little Liars
I said it before and I'll say it again. This show is my guilty pleasure. It has all the juicy elements in a teen drama that I love. While the plot isn't that terrific, it is still addicting. Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.
