Top Ten Books I'm Not Sure I Want To Read

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

As always, Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely ladies at The Broke and the Bookish. Today we are talking about books that I'm not sure I want to read.

 1. Because It Is My Blood by Gabrielle Zevin

2. The One by Kiera Cass

3. Hollow City by Random Riggs

4. All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill

5. Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

6. The Mirk and Midnight Hour by Jane Nickerson

7. The Dark Unwinding by Sharon Cameron

8. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

10. (Don't You) Forget About Me by Kate Karyus Quinn

So what books should I grant a second chance? How crazy am I for giving up on these books? Let me know!

  1. (Don't You) Forget About Me was such a disappointment for me. It was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and while I thought it was just "okay," it saddens me that I couldn't connect with the characters on a deeper level. I couldn't even tell you what the name of the MC was if you asked me. THAT'S when you know your experience was bad. Dorothy Must Die made it to my list too! On the one hand, I'm very curious about it, but on the other, it could turn out really really bad, ya know? I read the first 50 pages of The Dark Unwinding last year, and I couldn't get into it. I was told to push through, that things look up after the 100 page mark, but I just couldn't do it. All Our Yesterdays is actually pretty great! I read it over the summer. While I didn't LOVE it, I really liked it! It's a page-turner! Very entertaining and smart too! I'm glad I read it. I hope you reconsider. :)

Great picks, Addison! I enjoyed your post!

    1. I will definitely retry AOY. I was listening to it on audiobook so I may try reading it this time. Thanks for the insightful comment!!

  2. I think that "Cloud Atlas" should deserve a second chance. I have read the book, saw the movie too. :)

    1. It's an okay story, but I just wasn't feeling that it was up to the hype it was getting.

    1. Yeah. I tried it on audiobook, which I think was my problem. Next time I will read it instead of listening.

  5. Cloud Atlas looks amazing, but I've heard it can be a bit of a tough read.

    1. That's what I thought when I started it. Maybe I just wasn't in the right place to read it.

  6. I loved All Our Yesterdays way more than I thought I would. That's one I would definitely give a chance.

As for The One...if you want to know how it ends that badly, you could probably find someone to tell you. The only major thing that happens in that one is Celeste finally getting some character development.
