Changes are coming, but I want your input!

Monday, November 17, 2014

Okay, some of you guys know that the lovely Stephanie from These Paper Hearts and New Chapter Designs is designing my new blog layout--which I'm SUPER pumped about! The new design goes live come mid-December. That being said, there are some questions, I want to ask you guys, because if I'm going to change anything else, this would be the time. I'd rather have all the change over and done with in one big sweep rather than drawn out and people not knowing what to expect, so without further ado, I would like your input as readers of my blog! :)

1. Star rating graphics vs verdict images

I've always done star ratings with no graphics. I've played around with the idea of making the "star rating" graphic oriented; for example, using flowers as stars or something comparable. Or I thought about using verdict images similar to these. Thoughts?

2. GFC or stick with Bloglovin? Or what about email?

I use Bloglovin. I find that it's the most user-friendly blog tracker, and it's the only one I use. I don't really promote email notifications, because that just seems tedious, and who really uses that? But I know a bigger site that people use is GFC. So I'm wondering if to make it easier on users, should I also set up a GFC account for those who use it?

3. How do you feel about banners and graphic links to other blogs, websites, and events that I am participating in?

For the most part, I have kept my side bar very clear. I like the clean look, so I won't ever really make it cluttery, but I guess I'm asking if you like those kind of things so that you can get to know other blogs or events you want to participate in. So, your thoughts?

4. Weekly writing posts

I am a writer before I am a book blogger. Some of you have probably gathered that in my personal posts, but I also like helping other writers. Ever since Addison left, Sundays have been empty and free for the taking, so I was trying to figure out how I could fill that spot. I think I want to do a writing tips post on Sundays. Would that be something you would be interested in reading?

5. What do you want to get out of this blog?

Have any ideas, memes you wish I would take part in or something I would do more or less of? Feel free to let me know your thoughts no matter how silly or inconsequential you think they are!

Again, these are the questions, feel free to copy and paste them into your comments, if that makes it easier for you as you type.

  1. I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOUR NEW DESIGN! Not that I don't like this one. But I like new shiny things. ^-^

    1. Star rating graphics vs verdict images? I like star-ratings myself....but verdict images actually make more sense. Like my 3-stars means "meh" but other people's three-stars means "good". So that's confusing. Both?? heh.
    2. GFC or stick with Bloglovin? Or what about email? USE ALL 3!! I do. Well, I do now but when I move to WP, I'll loose GFC. I will still have both bloglovin' and email. I think having options is important. If you assume everyone is on the one platform you'll definitely miss out on some followers.
    3. How do you feel about banners and graphic links to other blogs, websites, and events that I am participating in? I like clean sidebars, I suppose. But I think it's up to you.
    4. Weekly writing posts? YES. OMG YESSSS. I want to know more about you as a writer!!
    5. What do you want to get out of this blog? Oh, cake, attention, fabulousness, you know. That kind of awesome stuff. I love how you blog. Just sayin'. *whispers* But one suggestion is to get rid of word verification because it kills me every time. lol But that's just me. ;-)

    1. Hmmmm. Good points! I think I may make a post once I launch the new design about the changes and include my ratings and what it means to me. As for GFC, that's what I thought too! But I'll have to figure it out over break or something, but the more followers, the better.
Concerning sidebars, I am a very clean person in format. So I will have to think of a clean way to present those banners.
Writing posts! I'm actually so excited about this part! I've written a writing guide for some users on Wattpad before, so I'm really excited to change it and format it into a weekly post! :)

Okay, so I didn't realize that I had that lol. Addison (my previous co-blogger) was the one to set up design and all that stuff, I was the scheduler and post writer, so okay good to know. Maybe I will change up the commenting system completely. Thanks for pointing that out!

  2. Can't wait to see the new design! Always exciting!

    1. I like star ratings best because they give you the visuals and it's more of a scale to rate things on.

    2. I use Bloglovin daily and it's great at keeping me up to date on new posts from blogs I follow. I have GFC and email too but I don't use those as much. Twitter's great at interacting with people too!

    3. I love how clean your blog is but I wouldn't mind seeing banners and other sorts of graphics. I know you'll still be able to keep it all neat :D

    4. I'm not a writer but it sounds like a good thing to do. I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate it.

    5. Books! I love the pretty journals you make~ Anything really :)

    1. Thanks so much for helping me out!! I agree with you about the stars too. It just seems like an easier way to covey how much you liked a book. It's almost a universal rating system. And thanks so much! I'm glad you like my journals! :)

  3. 1. I like star ratings. But it's also good to explain what the ratings mean to you. For some people, three stars is pretty good; for others, it's borderline awful.
    2. I don't even know what GFC is. My first thought was that it had something to do with fried chicken... (like KFC). I think it's always nice to have a way that people can contact you by e-mail; in my experience, though, it doesn't get used that often.
    3. I prefer clean sidebars. I don't know if I've ever clicked on anything in someone's sidebar. I guess I figure that if it's something really important, it'll be featured in an actual blog post.
    4. I'd read a weekly writing post. In spite of the fact that a lot of readers are also writers, there doesn't seem to be a ton of stuff about writing on the blogs (except during November).
    5. Umm... bookish stuff? I mainly read book blogs to find more good stuff to read, so... as long as you keep posting some reviews, I'm good.

    1. 1. I think I will make a post about what the rating system is to me, because you are right, it's different for everyone.
      2. GFC is GOogle Friend Connect. You can follow your blogger/google based blogs easier that way I think. I'm not completely familiar with it because I obviously don't use it, but I do know a lot of other people do.
      3. Yeah, this is still something I'm mulling over. It also probably will depend on how the final design is.
      4. Yeah, I thought of the same. I write books, poetry, and blogs, so I think I would have a lot to contribute to the community that way.
      5. I definitely will continue to write reviews. I'm planning on keeping to the two reviews a week. Every Monday and Thursday, unless something else needs to go up that week.

Thanks for your input! You've really helped a lot! :)

  4. Even though everyone's rating system is different, I prefer stars to verdicts. I love it when people link to events in their sidebar (mine are in my footer) because I'm not very active on social media and I miss out unless I see it on someone's blog.

    1. Oh that's a great idea! Putting them in the footer, I mean! Good point! :)
