Why I chose this book:
I feel like this is the moment to freak out. As many of you know, Sarah J. Maas is coming out with a new book May 2015, and it is the definition of perfection. Sadly, I don’t have the ARC… which makes me want to cry, but I digress.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Release Date: May 5th, 2015

Synopsis:
Get a FREE sneak peek at the first four chapters of New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas' thrilling and seductive new series, which blends Beauty and the Beast with faerie lore.

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin--one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin--and his world--forever. (Goodreads)
My Bookish Thoughts:
I am about to tell you guys how awesome those first four chapters are! Seriously, if you wanted another book that had a strong in spirit MC, this might be another to add to your favorites list!

She creates a really sad and lonely world for her protagonist, Feyre (pronounced: Fay-ruh). She has two older sisters who rely on her to keep them fed and clothed, and she has a father who is lame (like physically lame) and cannot sufficiently provide for his family. This puts the entirety of familial responsibility on Feyre.

First off, I applaud Sarah J. Maas for the astounding world-building. It was beautiful in its hopelessness, but I was worried that I would get Throne of Glass and ACOTAR mixed up—especially with all the Fae stuff. In reality, there's really no way you can. The Fae mythology used in this book, is different than that of Throne of Glass. And the setting brings a more dingy and dying feel (at least the human realm). The entire feel of the book is different to where it would be hard to mix up.

The only thing that reminded me that this was a Sarah J. Maas book (besides the fact that her writing is always superb) was how shadowed and complex Feyre is. She reminded me a lot of Celaena, but not personality wise. But like Celaena, Feyre is hard and weathered, and her character and heart has been calloused by past experiences. Feyre's duty bound character really brings a complexity to the table that will keep you trying to figure her out.

I really can’t wait to read this book in its entirety. I was actually very frustrated when I finished the final chapter in the free sampler, because it left off on such an awesome yet KILLER cliffhanger.

  1. Oh uh, I downloaded the free sampler but now I'm not sure I want to read it because of that killer cliffhanger. I'm so excited for this book but cliffhanger noooooo. I'm looking forward to meeting Feyre. Thanks for the preview review :)

    1. I generally don't either, but I've been getting so jealous of all the people that got physical ARCs and I'm dying to read it! It's so great, like seriously, Cait! AMAZING! I could tell even from those four chapters that she has the complexity that Celaena did in ToG. I really can't wait to read the rest! I know it's going to be breathtakingly AWESOME!
