So I don't know about you guys, but I have been following Cait from formerly The Notebook Sister now Paper Fury, for a long while now. She's hilarious and just an all around great person! Seriously, I swear we would be best buds if that thing called the ocean didn't separate our countries. Anyway, in celebration of her move from Notebook Sisters to Paper Fury, she wanted to do a book tag and an awesome giveaway to go along with it, so here goes nothin'!
'Bout This Blogger:
1. Why did you start blogging?
Personally, I wanted to start blogging because I really like talking to people about bookish things. I only have like two or three IRL friends who love to read, so I really wanted to be a part of a community that took books seriously and love them just as deeply as I do and hoarded them in their multiple bookshelves (or sometimes in closets or on the floor, or just about anywhere you can store books).
2. What's the story behind your blog's name?
I LOVE glasses. I wear glasses (have worn them for most of my life now) and since to me it's a symbol of intelligence... but let's face it that's really weird considering a really unintelligent person could also need corrective lenses. But ya know, whatever! I think it kind of sums me up. Glasses and books. Yeah.
3. How many designs have you been through since you started blogging?
I have only had the design that you see right now, but I am currently working with Stephanie from New Chapter Designs for a new layout that should come sometime in the middle of December I think? It's going to be amazing you guys! I'm so excited!
4. Have you ever switched blog platforms? What made you move? If you haven't ever changed... why?
I have never switched platforms. I have always been on blogger, and I will probably stay that way. Wordpress makes me nervous. I don't understand it, and it confuses me thoroughly. One time, I had to use it for a class and I about pulled out my hair because it was so confusing. Blogger just works with my personality and OCD-ness.
5. How long does it take you to write a post? What's your postly process like?
Depends which post it is. If it's a review, it takes me about 20 minutes. If it's a discussion/topic post, it can take a little longer, normally 30-40 minutes (especially if it's a hefty length). I'm used to getting my thoughts down quickly and then going through and editing what I have, so it honestly doesn't take me all that long. I don't understand how some people can spend hours on a single review. Like how? I really want to understand, are you just more of a perfectionist than I am? I didn't think that was possible!
6. Have you ever been super nervous about a post? Why?! What was it?
Only one so far, and that was because it was personal. I wrote a "If We Were Having Coffee" post that had a couple of personal things about me. In one of my topics, I write about not being happy with where I was in life and feeling under-appreciated. At the time, I was in a really bad place with a really terrible job and a horrible boss. Come to find out, my boss had found out my blog a couple days after I published that post (don't ask me how she found out, because I was keeping the URL pretty hush hush at the time). That was the beginning of hell breaking loose in my job, and I filtered a lot of my personal feelings toward my situation for the few months after that.
That being said, I wasn't nervous about the reception in the book community, but rather I was nervous about my boss (who was a b*tch, btw, and now I can say that with confidence because I no longer work for her).
I've had a rough year, let's just put it that way, but this book blog has saved me! It's been my constant, and I couldn't be more proud of it!
7. Do you have a blogging schedule?
I do!!!! My OCD self cannot function without it! I have a nice little journal that I made my own calendar out of, and I carry it around like a person who has hypergraphia! I also like consistency. So I always post certain things on certain days of the week (or month if it's a monthly post). I'm just a very particular person lol.
8. Do you tell people IRL about your blog? Their reactions?
Despite what I said earlier, I actually do. It's something that I enjoy doing. Of course I get weird reactions like, "What is that?" or "You mean that you read and write ALL THE TIME?" "You write book reviews? So are you like really tight with the publishing industry? Can you publish my book?" It can get annoying, but mostly I get really awkward nods or "Oh that's interesting" without them really feeling like it's interesting. But then you meet some really special people (I'm thinking of one in particular who I met at a book signing), she immediately recognized me asa book blogger and wanted my card. She was über sweet, but the difference was, she enjoyed reading.
If I know the person doesn't like to read, I generally don't bring up my book blog, but if I know they enjoy reading and we generally like some of the same books, I tell them.
9. Top ten blogs you read/comment on the most! Go! Go!
Oh my gosh this is the hardest question!!!! AHHH! I follow so many good blogs out there and I know I'm going to forget one of them but here are ten that I really enjoy:
I just love them all soooooo much!!!!
10. If you could change/improve things about your blog, what would they be?
I think I would really like to pick up a couple of guest reviewers every month. I really can't do this all on my own, and it's been really hard since my co-blogger split, but I want this blog to stay mine, just with a review or two every month or so. If that interests you, let me know by shooting me an email. I don't get physical ARCs so I can't really do that, but if you have a book that you really want to review and don't mind posting it here, let me know and maybe we can work something out! :)
I would also like to improve my layout (but obviously that's getting fixed), and the names and tags of all my posts. That's something that I might work on come Christmas break.
That being said thanks so much to Cait from Paper fury for doing this awesome book tag! She's fabulous and if you don't already follow her, you should!
DO IT! DO IT NOW!
