The Semester is Finished! What Now?

Friday, May 15, 2015

Phew! This semester is finally over. I am free of academic obligations for the next 3 months... well, sort of.

I decided to write a personal post about what is going on in Amanda-Land since the last couple months I have been in and out of the blogging world. Some of you might have noticed that I have been a little absent on Twitter, on my Blog (yeah, I hate when I miss posting), or commenting on your blogs. Or ya know, maybe you didn't notice and I only wish you had! ;)

Anyway, grad school has been kicking my tail! I took three really hard classes this semester, and that's seriously all I've been doing... just so you all know, grad school is VERY different from undergrad, and even though it's a bit more enjoyable, it's ten times harder. The last month and a half I have been writing research papers and working on presentations and studying for finals; needless to say, my blogging life has thus been demoted to the back burner.

But now that the semester is over, I can focus more on blogging, at least more than I have over the last month and a half. That's not to say that my life isn't wicked busy at the moment, because it so is. That being said, I would like to update you guys on what you're going to see this summer!

First up... I'm going to BEA! I know so exciting! I didn't really mean to keep it hush hush, I just barely had enough time to think of it let alone plan for it, so I haven't said much. But in a little more than a week I will be on a plane to NYC with my friend Becca from Pivot Book Reviews to attend Book Expo American and hopefully not spend too much money while I'm there. ;)

Honestly, I'm not sure I'm ready. Could I ever be ready for such a trip? No I don't think so, not to mention that I have a wedding to photograph two days before I leave... sigh... soooooo much to do!
After BEA be prepared for more giveaways and awesome little summer funzies!

Other than that, I will also being moving to different apartment (THANK GOD! -I hate where I'm at right now!), so with that comes bookshelf culling, which means even more giveaways for you guys!

I have a couple of other things on my to-do list for the summer:
1. I need to find a job. God I need one so bad, but it sucks when you have relatively little experience.
2. I need to work on my thesis.

Ah, yes, the dreaded thesis. This is the summer that I've challenged myself to have half of my thesis written... Yes, that's right, half! Which roughly means I need to have at least 30-40K words down in Scrivener by August 17th (when school starts back up again). Considering that I'm only in the brainstorming stages right now, that's quite a feat.

So I will definitely be writing like a fiend and praying that the plot works out in my favor once I actually start writing the chapters.

Even though this summer should be a little less stressful, it's going to stay busy.

What about you? What does your summer look like?

  1. My summer will probably consist of sweating through the days without air-conditioning. I haven't really decided if I'm going to do anything though. I mean, anything out of the ordinary...

  2. Summer looks like redoing two of the lit classes I'll be teaching in the fall - I've been too easy on the lessons and homework! Other than that, I plan on reading quite a bit and maybe getting to the beach once or twice.

I'm glad things are slowing down for you, sort of :) I hope you have fun at BEA! I'm sure you will - I think it's impossible not too lol. And good luck on that thesis!!

  3. My july is busy doing summer school but since it's just one subject, it shouldn't be TOO bad. Right? I'm only in ninth grade, so there isn't too much pressure yet. Yay for finishing <333

Now that you have more time, it would be so cool to see more of you on the blogosphere! I love your presence. Also have such an amazing time at BEA. I am bursting with envy haha

  4. Congrats on making it through your tough classes in one piece! It sounds like you will be having a busy but good busy summer. I have yet to go to a BEA and won't be able to this year, but I hope you have so much fun! I can't wait to hear all about your experience when you get back.
